Hello, my name is Nery. I'm 24yo, I'm married and I have a kid. I have spent my whole life around computers and consoles. When I was a teenager I left school so I could be at home playing. Lately I've tried to go back to school but I can't concentrate at all, and I can't even drive because it gives me anxiety attacks.
I love my family, I adore my kid. I try so hard to play with her and spend time with her but it's more the time I spend playing than with her. I feel like an horrible mother, and useless wife. I hate doing housework... I just want to play all day long. Please, please I need help!!

I strongly recommend coming along to a meeting as soon as you get the chance. You can check our schedule (http://cgaa.info/online-meetings/) to see our meeting times, which should hopefully be possible for you. Just listening can sometimes be enough to give you the motivation to make a change. http://cgaa.info/how-to-stop-video-gaming/ is a good early read, along with perusing the twelve steps (http://cgaa.info/the-twelve-steps/) under our program of recovery.

Your current experience is something that a lot of our members have experience with. Personally, I was gaming 20 hours a day, I dropped out of school, and my life completely ground to a halt for over a year. The one thing that dragged me out of that rut was a desire to quit video gaming. It truly can give you a fresh start.

If you ever want to chat to someone outside of a meeting, you can get a hold of me on skype at chaoticlapras.

Good luck.

Welcome Nery, glad you found us here. Come listen in on some meetings. At the beginning of the meeting, someone will ask if anyone new is there. If you'll just type "yes I'm new" at that point, then it's much more likely that the meeting will focus around topics that are relevant to where you're at today.

I'm a parent and was distraught about how mentally absent I was with my son, how I kept getting overwhelmed with urges to game, and how neglectful I was with cleaning my home or myself. Also, my late night gaming left me sleep deprived, which made me moody and irritable and withdrawn.

My life has changed completely since I started working this program of recovery. I get the sleep I need. I'm present with my son. My mood is great most of the time. Other mental problems have eased or disappeared. I clean my home and take good care of myself and my son today. These things are possible for you too. If you do the things that worked well for us, you'll very likely get similar results.

Many of us come here with feelings of shame, guilt, and/or hopelessness. I think these may bring you some comfort. They are two parts of a lecture on the nature of addiction:

You may also find comfort in meetings as well. You are welcome to join as many or as few as you would like.
