As a reminder, per our Traditions (tradition 11):

Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio, films and internet.

No full names or pictures of any CGAA members should be exchanged over the internet. Please ensure anonymity at all face-to-face meetings and do not take full face pictures and send or post them on the internet.

The way I understand Tradition 11 is:

Any article or post that identifies someone as a CGAA member should not contain their last name or picture.

Just because someone attends CGAA meetings does not mean their full name and image must be expunged from the internet. The problem occurs when a picture that identifies the person as a CGAA member is posted publicly.

I think the picture's very existence inherently identifies every person in it as a CGAA member based on the photo taker's association with CGAA and their connection with whoever shared the pic to begin with.
We don't want newcomers to future official CGAA events or F2F meetings to be worried or concerned over their pictures being taken. They can't be totally sure who will see them, they're new and emotionally at a different place.
Basically, we're having to assume or not assume that whoever Joe Doe shares a pic with, that he may have taken or received from an event he was at, does or doesn't know of his association with us and where/why the pic was taken.
I think its important to recognize that even the possibility of someones identity to be connected to this fellowship is enough to be mindful of these things as to not shy newcomers away in the future, leading them to assume we don't take anonymity seriously.
So in events that are specifically CGAA related, this is a principle we should be very conscious of in the future so no one misinterprets our groups view on the matter.

I personally trust this fellowship and do not believe we view anonymity lightly, but it is perception that matters in cases of encouraging growth in the future.

Yeah, definitely. Next time I think we should: (1) ask beforehand if we want to allow cameras at all, (2) if cameras are allowed, require that people ask permission before snapping pics of anyone, and (3) give reminders of about anonymity before, during & after the event.

My sponsor brought up the issue of cameras, and I meant to bring it to the group before the gathering, but there was so much going on it slipped my mind.

Agreed. We need to avoid anything that threatens anonymity for anyone; if people don't feel safe, they won't come for recovery.
